MIPI UniPro Interoperability Test Workshop Advances Industry Adoption of High-Speed, Low-Power Mobile Interface Solutions(December 06, 2017)
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (PRWEB) December 06, 2017
The MIPI® Alliance, an international organization that develops interface specifications for mobile and mobile-influenced industries, recently held a MIPI UniPro Interoperability Test Workshop in Hsinchu City, Taiwan.
MIPI member companies from Asia, Europe and North America participated in the successful one-day event, where they tested both host and device interoperability with MIPI UniPro v1.61 with MIPI M-PHY® v3.1 and with JEDEC® Universal Flash Storage (UFS) v2.1 devices. Participants were also able to test features of the forthcoming UniPro v1.8 with MIPI M-PHY® v4.1 and UFS v3.0 interfaces.
MIPI UniPro is an application-agnostic transport layer for chip-to-chip and inter-process communication (IPC) applications in traditional or modular device architectures. Not only is UniPro a highly efficient, low-power, low-EMI protocol for mobile devices, but it is also increasingly used in tablets, laptops, cameras, multimedia devices, smart watches, health monitors and automotive infotainment systems, among others.
“This is our third workshop, and each one has had more participants, and we're seeing more interest in and adoption of UniPro," said Jürgen Urban, chair of the MIPI UniPro Working Group. “These workshops demonstrate the ecosystem of hosts and devices, and the availability of the tools to help with the design and debug of UniPro."
Companies participating in the MIPI UniPro IoT Test Workshop include: BitifEye Digital Test Solutions GmbH, Keysight Technologies Inc., L&T Technology Services, Phison Electronics Corporation, Protocol Insight, LLC, Teledyne LeCroy, Toshiba Corporation and others.

Quotes from MIPI UniPro Interoperability Test Workshop Participants
“This workshop presented the perfect opportunity for BitifEye and our customers to prepare themselves for the next UFS certification event with our MIPI M-PHY® transmitter/ receiver test solution," said Tom Kopf, director of marketing and sales at BitifEye. “And we could reaffirm that everybody is in good shape."
“Demonstrating interoperability between different implementations of evolved MIPI UniPro/M-PHY specifications is an essential milestone for the adoption," said Yang Zou, digital business manager of wireless device and operator organization, Keysight Technologies Inc. “Keysight's test solutions for UniPro and M-PHY, used for conformance test and debugging, contributed to and accelerated significantly the success of the innovation."
“We would like to thank the MIPI UniPro Working Group for conducting the interop event," said Praveen Kumar Sethuram, project manager, L&T Technology Services. “It provided an opportunity to find the compatibility issues during the development stages and to bring forward the better solution with ease. We are looking forward for further events."
“We were very excited to participate in the MIPI UniPro Interoperability Test Workshop and seeing our in-house Gear 4 M-PHY, UniPro, UFS Device IP and controller work well with the high-speed hosts, " said Horace Chen, director of product management at Phison Electronics. “As the dynamic mobile market moves into SSD-like performances, this important Interop event could eventually ensure a seamless integration between the phones and UFS devices. Such early collaboration between host chipsets and devices can enable the companies to address compatibility issues while in design stage. A big thanks to MIPI Alliance for setting up this opportunity."
“Protocol Insight was pleased to attend our third MIPI UniPro workshop," said Ross Nelson, general manager, Protocol Insight. “This workshop gave us the opportunity to test our new MIPI M-PHY® v4.1 UniPro v1.8 exerciser/analyzer instrument with other gear4-capable devices. The successful conclusion of this workshop will ensure a smooth adoption of UniPro v1.8 and UFS 3.0 by the industry in 2018."
“As a worldwide leader in protocol test solutions, interoperability events such as the recent MIPI UniPro workshop provide excellent opportunities for us to troubleshoot and collaborate," said Roy Chestnut, director, technical marketing at Teledyne LeCroy. “All workshop participants made great progress toward solving interoperability and performance issues. We look forward to more UniPro workshops in the future."
